The History Of The Split Check Feature

Since the creation of table service the two words most hated by wait staff are "split checks". This used to mean several minutes of valuable time trying to create accurate, individual checks from one large check. Not always accurate and never easy.

It never seems to fail. If a server asked before taking the order the table would put everything on 1 check. But if the poor server forgot to ask, their bad luck would certainly catch up to them in the end when the 4-top wanted individual checks.

With the advent of electronic cash registers this problem was solved, but usually only if the checks were entered by seat number. This allowed for splitting of the checks but only if the order was put in by seat number to begin with. No seat number. No split checks.

The Need For The Split Check Feature

Speed of service is as important as the food. Sometimes speed of service is more important. (I present for an example some of your more famous fast food restaurants who may not have the best product but put it out faster than most and thereby thrive.)

The huge push for speed of service has created the need to be able to split checks fast and accurately even without the requirement for entering the order by seat number.

DirecTouch Point of Sale has a super quick and easy way to split checks, even if the order was not entered by seat number. However, if the order was placed by seat number, the split check feature is a simple 1-button push.

By taking advantage of touch screen technology we are able to open the check, add another ticket, touch the items to move and touch the new ticket. The check is split, printed and ready to present to the customer. No hassle, no long wait time, no disgruntled wait staff and no unhappy customers.

If the waiter was able to enter the check by seat number then all that is required to split the check is touch the "Split Check" button and the check. The check is split and when the "Done" button is pressed the checks will automatically print.

Not many of us want to feel like we are an interruption, problem or pest. Not many of your guests want to feel like they are a bother. If a server makes a nasty face when asked to split the check because your current system is difficult, if not nearly impossible to split checks without re-ringing the entire order your customer is going to feel like they should go somewhere else where they aren't such a bother.

The Setup Of The Split Check Feature

None. This feature is already turned on. All your people have to do is use the "Split Check" button to split checks and the "Undo Split Check" button to combine checks together.
