Why No CD ROM Drive? | DirecTouch Do It Yourself Restaurant Point of Sale FAQs

Why is  there no CD drive on my terminal?

You are not buying a home computer.  You are buying a point of sale terminal.  For security purposes point of sale terminals do not have floppy or CD drives.  These types of drives would give easy access to your system to individuals who would then be able to:

  • Load unwanted software onto your system
  • Load files which could contain viruses
  • Copy files from your computer including data and report files
  • Play music or video files
  • Play games

You should do as we do.  When we want to load software onto a point of sale terminal we either:

  • Use a USB CD drive to temporarily attach to the terminal
  • "Map" or electronically attach to a CD drive on another computer in the network

If you have to have a CD drive installed in one of your terminals we do offer an upgrade option that includes:

  • A RWCD drive that not only loads software but can act as a backup device
  • Keyboard
  • Mouse
