Does DirecTouch come with a cash drawer? | DirecTouch Do It Yourself Restaurant Point of Sale FAQs

Learn More About Cash Drawers

First off, not all point of sale terminals need a cash drawer. That is why most DirecTouch Restaurant Point of Sale systems have them listed as optional. Wait staff terminals, hostess terminals and server terminals do not require a cash drawer when server banking is used. Server banking requires that the server carry a small change bank with them to keep their daily receipts. At the end of their shift the system will tell them how much they owe you. They present this report along with the exact amount of money and charges to you, keeping the rest as their tips. With this method you are never short.

In operations where a cashier or bartender is working you will want a cash drawer on the system. For security purposes you will want to have this drawer attached to the terminal/printer and only open when a sale is tendered. In fact, with DirecTouch Restaurant Point of Sale you can determine on which types of tender that the drawer does open. Some cash drawers come with a media slot where charge slips and checks may be slid through a small slot in the front of the drawer, thereby eliminating the need to open the drawer. Only opening the drawer to place cash inside is the most secure method of cash management.

DirecTouch Restaurant Point of Sale in most instances uses a cash drawer attached to a printer. This is for your security. If an employee is going to steal they need to open the drawer. To open the drawer (except where you have programmed a 'No Sale' key) an order must be rung. For that, a printed receipt must come out. If the employee disables the printer they also disable the drawer opening. Thus, an added level of security.

In some instances it may be required that 2 employees work on the same terminal but keep separate cash drawers. DirecTouch Restaurant Point of Sale handles this through the linking of 2 cash drawers. Each bartender/cashier is assigned a specific drawer. When they ring an order only their assigned drawer will open when the order is tendered. Separate balances are kept for each drawer for easier balancing.
