Do I need a back office computer to run the system?

In most cases, installations of 3 or less terminals do not require a back office server to be utilized.  However, there are certain functions that must be performed in order to properly maintain the software and to do business that might be easier to do in an office environment.  These do included:

• Printing of daily reports
• Maintaining the database
• Adding/deleting items
• Changing prices
• Adding employees
• Batching credit cards

In smaller installations the choice to use a back office computer in the system is clearly up to you, the end user.  In installations of 4 or more terminals or in high volume installations with as little as 1 terminal a back office computer would be required.  This is especially true if credit cards are being run through the system and not a separate terminal.
