Selling a Gift Certificate on DirecTouch DIY Restaurant Point of Sale

With the Gift Certificate add-on module DirecTouch Point of Sale has the ability to sell, manage and track gift certificates for a single store or multiple store operation.

  1. To sell a gift certificate start the order as normal.  In a table service operation you can start with an "Express Order" if you do not wish to add this to an existing guest check.

  2. To sell a gift certificate there is a button added to one of the menus for this item.  Some restaurateurs put this under a higher level of security access to help prevent theft.

  3. The system will prompt you for the price of the gift certificate.

  4. You then will tender the sale.

  5. Tender in the normal fashion.

  6. The system will then ask for the gift certificate number (if using paper certificates) or to swipe the magnetic card.

  7. When the gift certificate is redeemed the server will ring the items as normal.  When the tender screen appears they will select "Gift Card" as the payment type.

  8. Swipe the magnetic card or enter the gift certificate number.

  9. The system will look up the balance on the card/certificate and deduct the sale amount from the card.  In this case, a balance is left on the card and no change is dispensed.

  10. If there isn't enough left on the card/certificate for the entire transaction a pop-up window appears letting the server know that additional tender is required.

  11. This additional tender is accepted in the normal fashion.
